Tea is the most consumed beverage after water. However, 78 percent of the tea consumed worldwide is black and only about 20 percent is green. Green Tea has been native to India and China and has been used in traditional medicines. Many variants of green tea are avaliable and some studies show that it helps prevents a range of ailments including cancer but more research has to be done in order to prove this.

Many myths are related to green tea consumption , some are based on the general perception and some are just marketing gimmick from the tea industry across the world.

Let's see 3 myths related to green tea.

#1 Burns belly fat

This the biggest myth related to green tea. Its just a marketing strategy from its manufacturers. The truth is no particular food or exercise can make a particular area or part of the body loose fat. Whenever you try to cut down sugar your intake of carbs is lowered and you automatically losse more fat . So if you choose the non sugary version you are well set to loose some fat but consume sugar then green tea will be of no help.

#2 Boosts metabolism

There no hardcore evidence that green tea increases your metabolic rate. The only way to increase your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is increasing your lean body mass, a.k.a. building muscle. That's why strength training is key to keeping your metabolism up for the long-term, and crucial to bone, muscle and immune function, which ultimately helps to support metabolism over time. Consumption of green tea doesn't guarantee you and increased metabolic rate.

#3 Causes Dehydration

Caffeine causes dehydration, which is a known fact. This has given the idea to people that every beverage with caffeine causes dehydration. This of course is a greatly exaggerated concept. You would have to drink extremely strong cup of tea to feel dehydrated, and that too still wouldn’t do it because of the amount of liquid present in the water. It’s just another myth that has been circulating for no reason. Researchers claim tea to be even better than water, as water simply replaces fluid in our body while tea also provides antioxidants.

If consumed in the right amounts, green tea can do wonders for you body and help you achieve you health goals but remember you must go for the unsweetened version of it and not the sugary one.
