Steps to become a Data Scientist :
From the name itself, it is clearly understandable that Data Scientist are highly educated. With an estimation of 88% having Master’s Degree and 46% have PhDs. But do you really need a Master Degree or PhD to become a Data Scientist? The answer is No, not really. The minimum requirement to become a Data Scientist is to earn at least a Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science, Physics or any related field.
There are few steps to become a Data Scientist from Scratch or you can say from level 1:
Having knowledge of maths and statistics.
Learn programming : Python, R, Java, C/C++.
Understand Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Learn database language : SQL, ORACLE.
Master the art of understanding data visualization, data manipulation, data mining and data warehousing.
Practise as much as possible.
Few other points to start your career as a Data Scientist:
Gaining technical skills in Analytics : Working knowledge of SQL and MS Excel are good to have a head start.
Participate in various data science competition : Involve in different forums online, participate in online contests.
Start using visualization tools like Tableau.
Communication skills : Apart from visualization, management, analytical and quantitative skills, one should have great communication and speaking skills as well.
A flow chart or step by step procedure to be followed while preparing to become a Data Scientist are:
Start with learning Python and then move on to R programming. Make some basic projects using these languages.
Learn SQL and MS Excel upto advance level and keep building databases and management of files and sheets.
Create algorithm of any sort of problem at least daily and try to understand basics of Machine learning, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data.
Lastly, practise statistics and mathematics problem heavily.
Apart from all these patience, focus and learning attitude are equally important to become a Data Scientist.
