The few, the fearless
Marcos is the special forces of Indian Navy which was created to conduct special operations during any kind of emergency.
It was earlier named as 'Marine Commando Forces' (MCF).
These deadliest Forces are specialised in everything including counter terrorism , underwater operations and sabotage to anti-piracy. These forces were also been asked for help during the Op Vijay (Kargil War).
Back in 1985 , Marcos was raised as Indian Marine Special Forces, which after two years changed its name to Marnie commando forces (MCF).
To join the Marcos, one needs to pass one of the deadliest training in the world preceded by a pre-training procedure which includes a three-day physical fitness and aptitude test. Here almost 80% applicants being screened out. The training gets worsened followed by a five-week long hell's week which includes intense physical training and sleep deprivation. Actual training begins after this week, yes it begins from here!
• Marcos is also nicknamed as 'Magarmach' or Crocodiles.
They generally serve for 3 to 5 years after the harsh training. They are also provided with one of the best weapons in the world.
Till now, they have taken over major 8 operations in their hands-
1. Operation cactus
2. Operation leech
3. Operation Pawan
4. Kargil War
5. Operation black
6. Tornado
7. Operation cyclone
8. Counter terrorist operation in Kashmir
During the selection process, all the applicant are males selected from the Indian Navy. They are being selected when they are in their early 20s. They have to go through a stringent selection process and training. By the end of the training only 10 to 25% of the trainnies are able to make their place in the Marcos.
Marcos are also very secretive and are not allowed to reveal their identities. They are a group of specialised , elite soldiers which are distributed among the naval bases of Vizag, Kochi and Mumbai.
Recently, a new naval base, INS karnawas commissioned as a MARCOS base and is wholly dedicated to the MARCOS for their training. It is not so easy to get through it.
