A Nepotistic Trend

"Ab Raja ka beta raja nahi banega, ab raja vahi banega Jo hakdar hoga" a dialogue which circulated all over social media after the makers released the first teaser of their upcoming movie Super30. This received a mixed response from people. Some appreciated it while some were quick to call it ironic.

Well, you cannot blame people for responding in this way. The Bollywood film industry has received a lot of flak in the past few years for promoting nepotism. But the act of favoring one's relatives and close ones isn't exclusive of Bollywood only. Infact nepotism prevails everywhere, from politics to workplace and even to schools. But when Kangana Ranaut, a self-made actress who rose to fame with movies like Fashion, Queen, and Tanu Weds Manu spoke her heart out on the couch of koffe with Karan ( a chat show hosted by Karan Johar') it stirred up a debate about the controversial subject again. Kangana went on further and called Karan Johar the flagbearer of nepotism and a movie Mafia. If you take a look at Karan Johar's choice of actors when it comes to his movies you'll find it hard to disagree with Kangana's statement.

Here is a list of some Bollywood stars born out of nepotism.
1 Alia Bhatt

She is the daughter of director and producer Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan. Alia made her big debut in Bollywood with the movie Student of the year. The movie was a massive hit and since then Alia's popularity has only witnessed a surge. But Alia is counted as one of Karan's close friends, which could have been the reason for Karan to favor her over 200 other actresses who auditioned for the movie.

2 Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi Sinha is the daughter of actor turned politician Shatrugan Sinha. She got her big break in Bollywood opposite superstar Salman Khan in the movie Dabang. Now what are the chances for a newcomer to be paired with a superstar in a debut movie? Obviously being a star kid favoured her.

3 Sara Ali Khan

Sara Ali Khan is the daughter of actor Saif Ali Khan and actress Amrita Singh. She won all hearts with her performance in her debut movie Kedarnath. While there's no denying that Sara is a powerhouse of talent, it is still unfair that her position as a star kid helped her bag lead roles in big- budgeted movies.

4. Janvi Kapoor

Janvi Kapoor is the daughter of late actress Sridevi and director Bony Kapoor. She made her debut in tinsel-town last year opposite another star kid debutante Ishann khattar the younger brother of Shahid Kapoor. This yet again proves Karan Johar's love for star kids and his blind belief in them.

5. Annanya Pandey

Another addition to the list of star kids making grand debut in Bollywood is Annanya Pandey. The daughter of actor and comedian Chunkey Pandey is gearing up for the release of her first film Student of the year 2 which is the sequel of the hit movie Student of the year. The actress has a million followers on Instagram and has always managed to be in the limelight. Annanya is the second star kid after Sara who bagged another film even before herfirst film hit theatre. Both Annanya and Sara are currently working on their second movie alongwith Kartik Aaryan in the lead. Getting back to back two movies much before you even establish yourself in the industry or prove your talent is something which is impossible for an outsider.

While Bollywood keeps defending its beloved stars by asserting that it is talent that matters the most. They surely don't have much to say when asked about the injustice that outsiders face in the industry. When most of the actors are struggling to find a way to get into Bollywood ,star kids just lose weight and get their dream break. It gets more hopeless when bwood biggies welcome this nepotistic trend with open heart.
