As India is a democratic country, its citizens has the right to choose their representative. There are many countries in the world which can elect their representatives such as Australia, Spain, Sweden, New Zealand, Denmark etc. Most democratic countries hold new elections for their national legislature every few years. In a parliamentary system the legislature chooses the leaders of the government. Some democracies elect other national officials such as president. Many democratic countries also have regional, provincial or state elections. But here I will discuss about India’s election. As we all know, in our country, elections are held every five years. And again in this year 2019, elections are being held. There are many political parties such as BJP, INC, AAP(Aam aadmi party), BSP etc. As it is the right to vote once a candidate becomes eligible i.e. to say when he/she attains the age of 18 years, there are no conditions attached to this right. As India is a country with huge population, it is not possible for everybody to gather and rule each other. Hence a system is set up where a group of people would select one person to represent their interests. For casting our vote, voter ID is compulsory to be made. Without our voter ID, we won’t be allowed to cast our vote.
Similarly, Electronic Voting Machine(EVM) are being used in Indian elections to implement electronic voting. EVMs have replaced paper ballots in local, state and general elections in India. Now in every elections and assembly EVMs are used. EVMs are easier to transport compared to paper ballot boxes as they are lighter, more portable and come up with safe carrying cases.
This is the year when I gave my vote for the first time. I was very much excited for this as it was my first time. I saw the systems and how it works, standing in a queue waiting for my turn, it all really excited me. I went with my mother to cast my vote on 18th of April, 2019.
The Indian election is currently being held from 11th April to 19th May 2019. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23rd May 2019.
