Books are one of the few things that intrigue our imagination & at the same time enhancing it. When we as readers read a book, we live a life with it going through all the ups & downs in the storyline of a character learning all along the way. We see life through the eyes of protagonist & antagonist; they become equivalent to the friends that we meet daily (could be anywhere, school, college, workplace, the friendly little vendor). We get so attached to the book & its character that as the last pages approach, we tend to read slower & slower in order to make it last for a few more days.

World Book & Copyright Day also known as International Day of the Book, is celebrated every year on 23rd April ever since 1995 as an annual event by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation). It was recognized so as to encourage people to read, publish their own books as well as to spread awareness regarding copyright to ensure the authenticity of their writings. It is a celebration that celebrates literary works of all the authors, poets, illustrators & books of this era to promote literary works. The date was decided for World Book & Copyright Day in General Conference held in Paris.

World Book & Copyright Day always has a theme that suits that year’s collection of work of different people around the globe across a hundred countries; this year’s theme was ‘Share a Story’. Everyone contributes in them in their own way whether it be huge multinational MNC’s like Amazon website was giving 9 e-books to everyone on their website on this occasion; however insignificant it would seem but there was a sale of books just down the lane near my home on a small book store. Amazon websites were to clearly promote reading in the digital era where people seem to forget their reading habits & are somewhere lost in internet surfing or scrolling through Instagram meaninglessly for every other hour.

Books are the collection of memories & history with a promise of knowledge if you dig deeper, they are like the hidden treasure if you know where to look for all the myths can be the truth & all the fantasies can be real. With this, I would like to take my leave with the hope that you all read more & more from now on. I will also return to my novel (should not keep it waiting for long).
