I used to think that Freedom,
was what someone gave to me.
I have spent my life time waiting,
for someone to set me free.

I could not grow.
I did not know,
that in my very hands I held,
The Key.

Women need to be considered as human persons just like men. Unfortunately, this is forgotten or ignored in our male - dominated and patriarchal society. Women are looked down upon as the weaker sex. Women are endowed with faculties, qualities and gifts whereby they can blossom as human person with dignity, honour and respect. Women have the capabilities, talents and strength to work not only for the welfare of their families but also society and the world at large.

Women are in no way less competent than men. They have proved their capability of competing with men in all walks of life. It is a woman who keeps a man going. It is well said that ' Behind every successful man, there is a woman!' Napoleon once said, ' Give me good mothers, and I will give you a good Nation'. The contribution of women in the fields of art, science, sports, politics etc., has been significant and commendable. They are in no way inferior to men. Women can play an important role in re - shaping the economic social and political aspects of a country.

Nowadays, women are coming forward in a large number in search of suitable job opportunities, in all fields of activity. Women work as receptionist, steno- typists and personal assistants in offices and business centres. The old argument that women, being physically weak, are unsuitable for jobs involving risks, has been proved wrong. Women now join the armed forces and the police. They are jailors, entrepreneur etc and are also engaged in big business. They are in no way inferior to men. They are flying aeroplanes and have made good pilots.

However, the general picture is that even after the Indian Constitution provision on equal rights for more than 50 years, women in India are discriminated against in all spheres of life - education, health care, employment, and are given the lowest status even within the family.

This in turn causes women to suffer from ill - health, economic dependence, low self - esteem. The unbroken chain of son - preference is continued by women themselves. Every 102 minutes there is a dowry - related death taking place somewhere in India.

The qualities that we need to develop in women to bring about change:
1. Knowledge:It is the key to power. We need to have knowledge of current happenings, background, law etc.

2. Skill of Communication: Public speaking, journalism, capacity to listen and then speak.
3: Values: Justice, culture, communal harmony.
4: Personal qualities such as self- confidence, self - respect, courage, optimistic attitude and trust in God.

Boys and girls are both wonders of God's creation, complementing one another. Boys and girls have, therefore, somewhat different needs. That is why the training for boys and girls differ slightly. When there is attitude of mutual respect, boys and girls can come together and grow up emotionally without danger or harm. They can learn from each other. They can understand and respect one another.
