The afterlife is an area of human consciousness we all enter upon leaving the physical death. Through out history we have questioned if there is life after death. Along the way, our religion and philosophers offered beliefs and opinions to provide answer this commonly asked question. However many of the answers contradict each other making it hard to figure out.

" Belief in life after death is a source of personal security, optimism and spiritual betterment". Nothing offers more courage and confidence that there is a better life for those who use their best to prepare for eternity. Although some of us believe its impossible to know whether there is life after death, belief in immortality is a timeless phenomenon.

Through years there have been many philosophers who do not believe in life after death . Among them is David Hume. He was a British emoerialist to the extreme. He only believed in what he could see. He felt that if you can't see your soul or God then they can't exist. The same holds true for the afterlife. He felt that when you died that was it, the end , there was nothing more. Buddhists do not mean in life after death meaning heaven. They believe when one dies he is reborn again and again and the cycle continues until he reaches 'nirvana'.

Nirvna is the state in which one has attained disinterested wisdom and comapassion. In Buddhist religion there is no God to save you or to show you the way. To reach nirvana you must achieve insight or wisdom. Buddha was not saved by any God. He was self enlightened one; by insight and wisdom he came into knowledge . He literally made himself a 'buddha' and subsequently attained Nirvana.

One of the great philosophers who believed inlife after death was Spinoza . Spinoza believed that there was heaven and hell and life in this physical realm was just a small part of God's greater plan. Spinoza said that "Man is a fleetingly going incident in an infinite and eternal universe."

In the Christianity it is believed that life after death does exist. The argument to support it was that after Jesus died he rose from the dead, proving that the soul is not destroyed after death. " This proof of immortality has been accepted by many and is regarded as one of the most costly assurances brought to mankind by Jesus. In the Bible it is stated "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life".

Through out histroy there have been many different religion and philsophers with different views on after life and what it entails. What we do when we leave the physical world will not be known to absolute certainty untill our time comes. Untill then we must take into account all the possibilities and choose the one that makes most sense to us.
