On this Wednesday, while we were chilling withour daily routines Alabama government of USA passed the strictest bill on abortion. The passed bill which will take the form of a full fledged legislation totally bans abortion wiping away all the possibilities of an abortion in case of rape also.On Thursday Missouri followed the path by passing a similar kind of bill , adding Missouri to the roster of states, including Alabama, Ohio, and Georgia that have enacted punitive abortion rules. Women are out in the streets in these cities demanding the rights over their bodies.

The idea of passing an anti abortion bill is to restrict the abortions .statistics shows that abortion rate has decreased in the country. But this has nothing to do with the stricter abortion rules , but to better availability of contraceptives. Moreover there is one more trap in these kinds of legislations. Making abortions illegal will shift all the abortions to underground. There will be illegal abortions performed by under qualified medical professionals. This is true as we can see in the case of India.

India has a law that bans abortionsafter 20 weeks of pregnancy. Consequently many abortions happen post 20 weeks of pregnancy illegally. This leads toa rough 10-20% contributions to maternal mortality rates.

So our first argument against this bill is that it does more harm than good.
Second and the most valid argument is the right of a woman to have complete autonomy over her body.
Feminine body has always been a space for cultures, conventions, society , etc to leave their imprints. There are too many imprints that a woman has hardly any space left to decide for her own. We need to unlearn these imprints.

It’s 21st century and we are talking about feminism. We are demanding equality in all aspects of life. Why not then our body,? Raise your voices . To day it’s Alabama and a few states in USA. Tomorrow it might come to you

Shout out...let’s join Anna Eskamani , an elected representative, in streets shouting against the bill. Her protests in Florida has made the state free from banning abortions. So only if we shout out we can have this right.

Together we must start saying.......
“My pregnancy is personal and is between a woman and her family, doctor, herfaith and not politicians”
