My Clothes Are Not My Consent.

A woman's apparel has been on the verge of controversy as a consent of rape for a very long time. It has always played a role in the case of victim blame game. Recently a recorded video has been viral in social media regarding an incident which happened at a restaurant in Gurugram, New Delhi. A middle aged woman has been seen making derogatory remarks against a young girl saying she should be raped for wearing a short dress. She even asked some men to rape her.

So here comes our point that Is Rape really consented by a woman's apparel?

While the common people are confused with it, some politicians who are suppose to look after the nation are also at par at making statements against woman's apparel :

1) A male politician named Abu Azmi said that scantily clad women attract male attention and that rape cases were the rise due to "women wearing short dresses."

2) A female politician Asha Mirje stated that rape also occurs due to a woman's clothing, her inappropriate behavior and her being at wrong places

Thus if politicians are there to make such statements, won't the common youth get provoked too?

What most of the people don't consider about rape cases that occur to children and elderly people. Also a women clad in burqa gets raped too.

The case of 8 year old child named Asifa Banu from Katua District in Jammu and Kashmir shook the Nation on April 2018. Was the 8 year old child provoking men with her clothes? Did she had seductive behavior and was she asking for it?

Another case comes in highlight where a 71 yr old Catholic Nun was raped by 8 men in Ranaghat District, West Bengal in March 2015. According to the sources the woman was old enough to be their mother or worse grandmother. Was she wearing a provoking dress in the home of God? Or her dress gave them consent?

So here we can conclude that educating people regarding the consent of a woman is necessary. Also telling them that her clothes are not her permission for getting raped is at must. Next time someone makes a derogatory statement towards a woman's clothing, suggest them to cover up his or her degrading mentality before telling a woman how she should be clothed.
