Women are possessive about their looks since ancient times as history has shown to us. Makeup on buried ladies, graves having beauty tools have been found by archaeologists. Not only this, but findings have also shown the use of beauty manuals by ancient queens and princesses. Well, that’s something shocking. Right?

1.Exotic Egypt

Beautification concept has been so influential on Egyptians like on no other culture. Egyptian queens had their own mix of kohl (soorma) with anti-bacterial properties. Even lowliest citizens would take care of their bodies with olive oil.Famous Egyptian beauty, Cleopatra wrote a book on beauty secrets. Cleopatra’s weird beauty face mask was made of crocodile dung and donkey’s milk. Her cheeks were blushed with crushed beetles.

2.Gorgeous Greece

A beautiful woman is generally complimented as “Greek Goddess”. Helen of Troy was the cause of bloodiest war in Greek history. Greek women had light complexion and they wore light makeup. They had cosmetics made from honey and olive oil. Greeks favoured connected eyebrows and so they used dark powder to decorate their eyes. Lead was mixed with olive oil to whiten skin this could also lead to women’s death by slow lead poisoning.

3.Exquisite Japan

Japanese women have clear, glossy and healthy skin since ages. Geisha are the women who perform ancient tradition of singing, dancing and art. They wear a lot of makeup to get that ghostly look with bloody red lips. In ancient times geishas used to remove their makeup with nightingale poop. That poop was supposed to do wonders for skin. A lady with 2 feet long hair below their waist was considered as beautiful earlier in Japan.

4.Elizabethan Era

Queen Elizabeth, the epitome of style, considered makeup as hazardous because it was considered to block skin surface energy. Women used to pluck their hairline to falsely give impression of having high forehead that was considered as sign of aristocracy. Swallowing of tapeworms by women gladly was considered to keep them slim and trim. It was believed that tape-worms would digest most of food that women ate.

5.Mythical India

Indian women have been counted upon in the list of beautiful women since ages due to their strikingly attractive eyes. Gaining attractive looks with skin beautification was based on science in ancient India. Ayurveda has many secrets about natural ingredients used to look gorgeous. Cow dung and urine was used by Indians for slimming, healing cracked heels, and fighting acne. During Mughal times, chewing of betel leaves was an essential beauty regime although it decayed women’s teeth.
