Girl- "He forced me on bed yesterday. It hurts". Society- "It's fine, he is your husband"

Marriage, a match made in heaven or say a sacrament where man and a woman are hitched for life, either voluntarily or by the consent of their families. In this era, where law ensures the equality of all men and women in every aspect of life whether it is work, education or any other thing , then isn’t marriage a bond of equality ? Then how can a male be overbearing and force his wife for sex , even when she is reluctant to it ? Why is this so called tradition of marriage more important than women rights ?

Rape is the biggest problem of our nation. We protest whenever there is a news of rape that took place , but what about those rapes which happen every night ? Ain't that a Rape, Which the society hides behind the curtain of marriage ? We see lovers, who then turn into couples, and soon that love is replaced by lust. Oh! "love is blind" and it becomes so blind that itignores the concept of mutual consent. It’s from the beginning that sons are taught this crime as a ritual and so many daughters are taught, it as their duty towards their spouses . So many husbands have turned into rapists from lovers. And still the society doesn’t recognise it as rape and call it a way of romanticism.

Many people find it ironical , that how can it be rape when they are married? But , people need to understand that RAPE IN ANY FORM IS RAPE ! even if it is after you go steady with someone. So many wives are a victim of this violence since years . They are being silenced to talk about this harassment. So many women commit suicide to rescue them from this brutality. India is still denial to recognise marital rapeeven when so many such cases are reported everyday. It is astonishing to know that one in every three men are admitted to sexual abuse. Around 106 countries criminalized marital rape and India too needs laws with regard to marital rape because human rights which also involves women's sexual rights are over and above the shackles of marriage and society. Even United Nations is trying to improve the position of women and they had announced the theme for International Women's day as "Balance for Better" . A gender balance society is what ou country really needs , where no individual is deprived of their rights and justice.

Awesome article. This is an extremely serious issue and it is good to see that somebody is rising her voice against this and bringing in light to this otherwise masked crime. 👍👍👍👍👍
