Dear younger me,
Hey. I hope you’re doing great. I wish I did great too when I was you. Do you know what else I wish? I wish there was someone to acquaint me with the harsh realities of life but no one ever did. I discovered and went through all the mess. For you, I’m here to highlight the truth. So listen up.

Be fearless.

There’s nothing at all out there you need to be scared of. People around you will undermine you and dominate you. They will comprehend that you’re weak and can’t be on your own. Stop them right there. Hold your head high and be ready to be cocky. Let the fire inside speak for you. When you will know what’s your worth, you will stop being around such people who don’t. Your decisions will be flawed, crucial, bold but most importantly it will be of your own. You won’t need approval from others. Stand by it and be fearless. Believe in yourself and you’ll be unstoppable.

Grades won’t ever matter.

Studying hard for good scores? Lol. Listen. I’m proud of you for taking up studies seriously but don’t degrade your mental health worrying about your grades because God damn it, it doesn’t matter unless you are into medical or law. No one is going to remember that you scored 97% in high school. Life teaches you more than a school does. People will teach you real-life lessons and you’ll fail at them but you’ll still learn from your failure. More failure, longer your TED talk. So don’t stress yourself for your next day tests or your finals. Grab a cup of coffee, chug and sleep over your tensions. What matters is your struggle.

Time will chuck out your friends.

Let us have a reality check. You have zillion friends around you in high school? They will be long gone as you pass high school. They will be a contact in your phonebook which will be undialed forever. There are friends you’ll never see again and there are friends who will stick around you forever. When you’ll be going through your breakups or PMS, they will be at your door holding your favorite chocolate ice cream. At every stage, you’ll meet new people, befriend them and end up never talking to them. They will remain in your memories. And that’s it."That being said, it is still better to have two or three solid friends you can count on than a host of people who won’t be there for you when it matters."

Make your own rules.

You want that job? Work hard and get it. You want to be with that guy? Confess to him. You want to buy that house? Go get it. Who is stopping you? Do whatever you’re inclined to. You’re a free spirit. It’s your world, ruling on your rules. You don’t like your job, walk away. You don’t need to stay! Do something you’re passionate about. Fuck the world, they will talk. Follow your imagination, your dreams. There is nothing worthy more than your happiness. You must wear tight and revealing dresses if you want. Want to wear shorts and lose t-shirts and tie your hair in a bun? Do it. Hate wearing makeup? Don’t, love your freckles.

Kiddo, it’s okay to be yourself.

You’re allowed to make mistakes, you’re allowed to be different.

You grow as you learn.

Take risks. For without risks, life is no fun.

I hope you make it till the end. All the best.

With much love,
The elder you.
