The world has been on a highway of technology with a very fast-moving traffic of 3G, 4G and 5G technology. It is an unfortunate thing how in a world where a message can be delivered across the continents in milliseconds, finding something as basic as potable water is an issue.
Middle geography taught us that 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. Most of which being a part of the oceans and seas is saline and thus not fit for drinking. Other water sources which were fit for consumption like the lakes and rivers are now seen drying up with each passing day.
Though the matter at hand is that there is “Water, Water everywhere; but not a drop to drink”.
While all the environment activists promote the concept of sustainable development i.e. using the resources wisely so as to save some of it for the future generations or maybe just making the used one reusable. Far from the concept of saving water, lies the concept of arranging for more amount of potable water.
Like, it is an observed and examined fact that the lake water is becoming worse and worse for drinking due to multiple reasons. Some are affected by the chemicals that go into them to make it polluted. While some are affected by the fertilisers that flow into them from the farms which is very good for the plants. Though this help given to the plants is not much admired by the people living around the lake as it is equally helpful for the growth of algae which makes the water unfit. A company has now taken the charge to renew the lakes and make more potable water available in the world.
Another commonly used source of water is the groundwater. In cities which are far from most of the water sources, the underground water is used excessively. But most of these cities being concretised are not able to replenish the water that is used. Thus, rain water harvesting plans and bores are promoted so as to collect the water during rainy season and help it seep into the ground.
Other than these, something to work upon is the technology which could just desalinate the ocean water just enough to satisfy the needs of the people.
A belief which is left behind is that world doesn’t need more water, all it needs is more money. More money to invest in the technologies which can make the large amount of available water, potable.
