Remember the last time you cursed the unending traffic. The last time you snapped at the person who was not minding his own business. The last time your the gadget stopped working when you needed it the most. The last time you lend your earned and saved money without any expectation that it would be returned. The last time you tried to save your work and it got posted unfinished. The last time you rode that emotional rollercoaster as your insides shouted why me.

This LAST TIME may not be far, as stress has been a part of our lives, its ancestoral and its natural, we experience it on a daily or hourly basis, it is the reason we percieve and respond to certain event or stressors that we view as threatening or challenging. Fear, anger and other emotions are closely related to this thing called stress. Some instances of stress is :

  • An unpredictable large scale event like suddenly the government anounces war or their occur any natural calamity.

  • A significant life change like moving out, having a child, death of a dear one etc

  • Or even the everyday inconvinience like the keys that play hide and seek with you every morning.

Stress is can also be positive like the stress you feel during your exam or an important meeting actually helps you to perform. Thus a short lived stress makes us alert and increases your focus. Not only that the moderate release of stress hromone like adrenaline and cortisol can heal wound and fight infection. However chronic stress or depression make one vulnerable to all kind of health realted issues and disrupts well being. Stress can not be eliminated completly but its affects can definately be reduced on you and your loved ones.

  1. Acknowledging or noticing stress is really important and with it the acceptance that you are a mess. Talking mindfully and accepting "I am disturbed" , "I am stressed" helps to check and control your response towards the stressor.

  2. A great surrounding and people also help to let go the stress and thus reach for your best man at the time of stress test. Often with comfort and faclities people becomes unsocial and lazy. Come out of your comfort zones and reach out for those who need help.

  3. Planning up make things a lot more easier. Planning saves you from response which is more of a reaction to an unplanned situation. It sets your priority and you know what you need to avoid.

  4. Binge eating is common when you are stressed. Make sure you surround yourself with nutritious food when you stress.

  5. Get yourself a proper sleep. Investing your time on right things can help to decrease stress to a great extent. Its nothing new to know that your body need that rest to ready itself for the next but to sacrifice the sleep can stress you in one form or the other. Also sleeping at right time tells your body that you are planned in every bit.

  6. Indulge yourself in activties that give you peace like doing yoga or any hobby. Find what feels good. Be creative. If you dont have time for anything relish a smile on your face, choosing to let the stress go.

  7. Deep breathing always help and calm your insides.

  8. You get what you give. Never stress others as it will bounce its way back to you. Notice the competing emotions and harness the stress.

So next time when stress takes over take deep breaths, notice your emotions, appreciate it but don't let them run your life.
