IPL stand for Indian Premier League.It is a cricket tournament of T-20 format.In this tournament 8 teams battle for a trophy.It was started in 2008 by Board of Control for Cricket in India. It happens every year in India in the month of April and May.The league is regarded as the brainchild of Lalit Modi,the founder and former commissioner of the league. A tournament that aims to promote Cricket in India and to provide a platform for the local players to play at a much higher level,to get the best possible environment for nurturing themselves into professionals and to provide enormous entertainment to the cricket fans in India and all over the world.The league,which is based on a round-robin group and knockout format,has teams in major Indian cities.The 8 teams arethe Mumbai Indians,the Chennai Super Kings,the Royal Chalengers Bangalore,the Delhi Daredevils,the Kings XI Punjab,the Kolkata Knight Riders,the Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.The winning team gets the whooping amount of Rs. 20 crores.

In IPL there is a criteria of Orange and Purple Caps.The most run scorer batsmen in the tournament receives the Orange cap and the most wicket taker bowler in the tournament receives the Purple Cap.In the IPL there is also a criteria of Strategic Time Out.The player gets the opportunity between the match to strategise their action plan.In IPL each team is owned by a person.Mumbai Indians is owned by Mukesh Ambani.Chennai Super Kings isowned by N Srinivasan.Delhi Daredevils is owned by GM Rao.Rajasthan Royals is owned by Manoj Badale.Royal Challengers Bangalore is owned by Diageo.Kings XI Punjab is owned by Preity Zinta.Kolkata Knight Riders is owned by Shah Rukh Khan.Sunrisers Hyderabad is owned by Kalanithi Maran.The IPL has developed into the most followed development for cricket.

Currently with 8 teams ,each team plays each other twice in a home-and-away round-robin format in the league phase.At the conclusion of the league stage the top four teams will qualify for the playoffs.

A team can acquire players through any of the three ways 1 the annual player auction,2 trading players with other teams during the trading windows and 3 signing replacements for unavailable players.In IPL auction all teams bid for players above the base price of the player and the highest bidder gets the opportunity to include the playerin his team.

IPL is a platform for many new youngsters to showcase their talent in cricket and also helps the selectors to search new players to include in the Indian team.
