As Bruce and the Avengers try to figure out how to stabilize time travel, Tony is spending his time at an alien bar on an alien planet (similar to those we have seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies). He sits near a window and glances outside. He notices some of the Outriders sneaking about and is suddenly on alert. But he is taken by surprise when the actual attack occurs. The Outriders seem to be trying to steal machinery and Tony makes to stop them, with his suit, but he begins to get overpowered. However, when he is almost at the point of being submerged under an onslaught of the aliens, he is rescued by plasma beam shots. He recovers enough to break out of the stampede and sees that Carol Danvers was the one who helped him. Though he doesn’t know her, she seemingly recognizes him and approaches him, calling him by his name.
She quickly explains who she is and that the Avengers are awaiting him back on earth. He refuses to accompany her, saying that he failed his planet and cannot bear to return and witness the damage he was responsible for, or face the people he let down. Carol doesn’t interrupt him, but once he is done, she says, “Pepper wants you to come home, Tony.” As he realizes that Pepper isn’t dead, his face changes, and after some deliberation he decides to accompany her back to his home.
Captain Marvel had announced her arrival beforehand, and the Avengers are waiting expectantly for her. They are surprised and overjoyed to see Tony along with her. Though he is glad to be home, he doesn’t look anyone in the eye and immediately asks for Pepper. The Avengers move aside to reveal Pepper Potts waiting, a child in hand. She reveals to a shocked Tony that she had indeed been pregnant the day he had gone to space and she had not been able to tell him that before he left earth on the Titan ship. The other Avengers give Tony some time to be with his fiancée and his daughter.
After a few days, Steve, Natasha and Bruce go to Tony and explain their idea of the time travel. He asks a few preliminary questions, but on hearing unsure answers, he immediately refuses to help. He tells Steve that he is finally taking the responsibility for his actions and that he realizes he didn’t save the planet. All he wants now is to live a life of peace with his new family. Steve, Natasha and Bruce return dejectedly.
Meanwhile, Clint Barton has been located and Natasha goes to bring him back. She finds him in the middle of a murderous rampage, but is able to get through him. After a heartfelt moment, she convinces him to return to New York with her. As he returns to the compound, he finds that the hope Natasha promised is not so near at hand. Bruce and Scott have hardly made any headway. When he hears that Tony refused to help, he takes Lang and goes to meet him.
He tries to convince Stark, but he refuses once again, mentioning his daughter, Morgan. He cannot do anything that would endanger his family life. At this point, Scott steps forward and tells Stark that he too cares for his daughter and that he is doing what he is doing to get her back. Clint lost his entire family in the Snap. “Everyone has a family that they are trying to get back, Stark. You don’t really know me, and this is probably the last thing Hank Pym would have wanted, but I trust you to be able to make this work.” He puts a red vial, of Pym particles, into Tony’s hands. Then they leave.
Tony begins to work, secretly, on time travel, that very night.
