The education system of India even in the 21st century involves cramming or mugging things, where children end up engaging themselves in rote learning or memorising in "parrot fashion". This system has always focused and made bookish language as a nucleus to all the answers rather than any logical understanding. Students are not even aware of why do they study a particular subject and turn up developing hatred for studies. The "parrot fashion" reduces their role in the field of extra co-curricular activities, makes them a couch potato and foodaholic.

The imbalance between their studies and extra-classroom activities leads them to way where it is difficult to cope up. The new education system fosters all-round development of a child. The concept of education should excel the four walls of a classroom. You cannot learn driving just by reading or mugging up the theory unless you are trained practically about the concept of accelerator, brake and clutch. Thus the need of the hour is to have a prime balance between the social and emotional development, books and the syllabus and extra-curricular activities.

The famous quotation "All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy"lay emphasis on the importance of co-curricular activities, not because they are the part of the curriculum but it helps children to mould up their personalities and provides them a unique identity that separates them from the crowd. Moreover, it leads to development of their civic values, ethical values, psychological values, educational values and cultural values. The world today demands specialisation not only in one field but to be an all rounder.

Students must participate in the music, art or drama competitions that builds up their overall personality and provides them a platform to showcase their talent. Others can voluntarily participate in sports meet or dance competitions or debate, taking place outside a typical blackboard and duster classroom experience. It teaches them "Art of living" and boosts up their energy in a right direction. The importance of team work, character building and moral values cannot be injected through theory classes or sitting on a chair under the fan. It is a broad concept that involves non-theoretical and active involvement.

It is ascertain that students involved in co-curricular activities show better academic results, improved coordination and lead a healthy and balanced life. These students are appreciated, given greater opportunities and preference over others. It teaches students to mould up their career, personalities and stand for their rights. It is rightly said " practical approaches and experiments are always better than the teaching lessons."
