Today, despite several hurdles and dangers, women have time and again broken the glass ceiling ofpatriarchy, sexism and misogyny and emerged as independent souls. However, one cannot be oblivious with the crimes faced by women. We live in a so called democratic egalitarian society and yet our women are not protected.Various studies show that 49% women face various crimes like domestic

violence, physical abuse, molestation ,harrasment gangrapes. Girls ,since the time they are born, are taught not to run alone, not to travel alone, not to smile at strangers despite the fact the around a majority of rapes are committed by their acquaintances. Women, in the contemporary world, are no

less than man. They have proven their mettle in almost every sphere of life. For the record, women havebeen to space, have climbed mountain peaks, dived deep down the seas and what not. Everywhere we see girls topping exams. There is no such field where women are not seen.

Recently, Nusrat Jha Rafi, a 19 year old schoolgirl was raped by her school teacher. Not only sexually harassed, she was burnt to death when she filed a case against him. She was forced to withdraw the complaint she had filed and when she denied, she was doused in kerosene and set to fire. Protests sparked out soon after this heinous act and the PM of the state assured that no culprit will be spared.

We do not have just one such case but thousands of them which need to be addressed as soon as possible.Recently a three year old girl was raped in Kashmir by a twenty year old boy. She was not wearing bold clothes, she didn't indulge in any kind of argument with the guy, then why was she raped?

In Kathua, another 7 year old girl was raped a year back. And the shocking part is that she was raped continuously for three days by some ages rascals. Our hearts crumble when such a story is heard. Today is was them, tomorrow it may be us or our family, friends.

We all wish to see a world free of violence against women. But how do we do that? The most important thing is belief. All women must embrace their inner power and strength. Also, intervene and fight for the victims. The biggest sinner is not the one who has done evil, but the one who has witnessed the evil and kept mum. Fighting for women means fighting for yourself, for your daughters, for yourmothers. #Metoo movement is one such movement launched by women themselves to reveal the devilsin our society. We all must act now to reach to every woman. Together we can bring a change in thepatriarchal society. If not now, then when? If not you, then who?
