These rules are definitely not absolute, and can definitely be broken to spark up a look. These are some rules I follow for a classy outfit look.

1) Avoid wearing patterns that are smaller than your fist size as they seem intricate and not very pleasing to the eye and thus creates a messy look on your outfit.

2) Avoid patterns on patterns, this implies that if one wears a patterned shirt, then one should try avoiding any patterned bottom unless it's the same pattern as the top, to form a body suit or a coupled together.

3) Wear clothes that fit you right, this is a very basic rule, but is usually ignored. By 'fit you right' I mean it could be a lose shirt as long as that's the style of the shirt.

4) Wear colors that suit your skin tone or rather, colors that compliment it. For tanned skin tones, usually brighter colors compliment the skin tones, but this depends on what your undertones are and thus be patient and keep trying different colour in trial rooms, you will get the hang of it eventually and understand which colors compliment your skin.

5) When you decide to wear a oversized shirt/hoodie/tunic pair it up with well fitted bottoms. This pulls the look together and gives it a classy look.

6) one should always have a plain White, Black and a Neutral colored shirt in their closet, as these can be paired with most bottoms and can be styled differently to create completely different looks. They can be worn tucked in, out , with a belt , one shouldered, off shouldered or tied up, etc.

7) Change up your shoes to create different looks, you can do this by using stilletos for formal looks, block heels for semi formal looks and flats for casual looks.

8) Another rule of mine for shoes is, if you want a taller look, or a look that elongates your legs, stick to platforms or block heels.

9) The platforms or blocked heels should usually be accompanied my strapped shoes for daily wear as it gives a casual look

10) Another tip to elongate the legs is to wear fitted bottoms, as it gives the illusion of lengthened legs thus making your legs look elongated

11) This tip is usually associated with Anna vintour, as she constantly mentions not to wear black on black. If you really love black and that is the look you are going for, then pair the look up with a pop of colour through your accessories or shoes.

12) Avoid the color black in clothing if you are trying to stand out. As black is a very common color and probably 6 out of 10 people you meet will have the color black in most part of their outfit. This tip should especially be kept in mind when going to a party and followed religiously if you are the hostess.
