The Cricket calender’s leap year is here. It is the time when the holy ‘Kumbh’ has come to an end and the country is now prepping up for the general elections and thereby, the Cricket World Cup.
It was in June ‘83 when the eight countries from the World gathered in England to fight the glorious battles and win the holy war. The boys from West Indies were the named favourites. But that did not happen that very day of the finals; it was the Indian team that created history, shockingly. No one ever expected this to happen after posting a small target to chase. The history that day was written at Lord’s, Ahh! or as it is known as ‘Home of Cricket’.
The time has again for the blue army to reiterate the history. Virat Kohli and co. have a once in a life time opportunity to do what the team did in ‘83 when Kapil Dev was at the helm of affairs. Along with the home nation England, team India are the favourites to win.
Where on one hand the drives and cuts will be taken care by the likes of King Kohli and his deputy Hitman Rohit Sharma, the line and length would be set up by Boom Bumrah and Shami. The spin duo of Chahal and Chinaman Yadav will show the wrong un. And it will be injustice if we talk about the World cup and we don’t remember our very own Captain cool ‘MSD’. The man with abundance of experience and his ability to finish to the matches single-handedly is still.
India is a country where cricket is considered a religion and players are treated as God. The Indian fans hope that not only do they get a strong government at the centre, but also their dream of lifting the trophy at the Lord’s gets fulfilled, again, by their team.
