Festival is an event celebrated by a community portraying some characteristic aspects of a community. All festivals are known for the unique way they are celebrated. The best part of the festivals is food. Everyone loves to eat food and the food of festivals is always special. Whenever I think of festivals the first thing which runs in my mind is food. I wait for festivals to begin so I could eat different sweets. India is a country with varied culture and varied festivals and each festival has a specific food as a highlight.

After a long adventurous tour I went into a town where war was celebrated as a festival. People there loved to see blood. We celebrate festivals as a sign of unity, they celebrated it as a sign of victory. It was the only festival celebrated in that place. They had no idol worshipped on that festival. The truth was there was no sign of religion found there. Their idols were all broken and thrown away. I wondered why they had this kind of aversion towards their own god. The place was more like a desert with very few houses. It was in midst of a large deserted island. I felt the festival was pretty bizarre. I went around asking about the festival. I was shocked to hear about it.

Their ancestors had a great army force and every time they get a chance they have a war against some places and if they win, it was celebrated as a festival. They had a large variety of food cooked and late night parties with their cultural dance. As days pass the people started to use more of their forest resources and at a point of time everything was gone. Not a single tree was found around, not even one. Their population reduced drastically. There was no source of food or water around. Irritated people showed their anger on their idols. There was no rainfall.

Though they faced all these sufferings they never forgot to celebrate their festival. The way they celebrated changed and the cause too changed. The festival which was celebrated for their victory is now celebrated as the day on which they eat food. They killed the first born child of every family to serve those people. It was the only day which they have food.

Cruel, isn’t it? The usage of resources more than required will push us to a place where we all will start eating our own flesh.
