In today’s world, drug abuse is a major social problem which, it is a widespread and critical problem not only of the western countries today but has emerged as one of the major concerns of the Indian society also. According to oneIndia has about 10 lakhs heroin addicts alone.The monthly drug sale in India varies between₹ 100 crore to₹ 125 crore. the use of illicit and prohibited drugs today is not just confined to street urchins and the lower classes but it is fast spreading into middle and upper-class youth of society.

Drug abuse is like a well with no stairs. Once you fall in it, it is very difficult to return. The definitional aspect of the term ‘drug abuse’ states that it is the use of an illegal drug of the misuse of a legitimate drug in such a way that it results in physical or psychological harm.

The most happening movie of Bollywood corresponding to drug abuse nowadays is Udta Punjab. This gives us an unambiguous view of drug abuse in India. The movie begins with a scene where a Pakistani national is seen throwing drug packets in the Indian side of the border and Alia Bhatt is catching them so that she could earn bread and butter by selling them. She also hopes to fulfill her dreams through this illegal trade . The main protagonist of the story Sahid Kapoor aka Tonny Singh is a drug addict and is addicted to coke. whereas Diljit Dosanjh who plays the role of a cop gets panic-stricken when he sees how his own brother fell prey to the drugs which are being sold at medical counters. So he takes the responsibility on his shoulders to eradicate the drug trade along with Kareena Kapoor who role of a doctor running a de-addiction centre.

This movie gives us a crystal clear view of the drug trade in India which is funded by international criminal syndicates and how every section of the society and the adolescents are the victims of drug abuse.

The worst hit are the adolescents who do not know what they are doing and when they come to know it's too late and they regret the moments when they took drugs.Somewhere it is the fault of our society also. Instead of helping them to rehabilitate we retard them forgetting that

Thus to control drug abuse firstly, the children should be educated about drugs and their harmful effects from an early age. Secondly, strict laws should be made to punish people caught dealing in such evil transactions. All compulsions even punishments, to check the evil of drug addiction from spreading and paralyzing the society should be taken up.
