Social media has usually been given a bad name, mostly by our aged seniors than our peer group but criticism nevertheless is apparent. Like honestly? It has almost always been associated with the worst conditions such as narcissism, desperation for popularity and ill effects of cyber bullying along with triggering several mental health issues.

This discoursehas led to widespread distaste but continued use of it, because if one chooses to live without social media, suddenly your social life ceases to exist. Humans can barely sit idle for 5 minutes without whipping out their phone to check notifications. This theme has also lent its character to several plots in the Netflix thriller series Black Mirror.

However, there has been an evolution of social media, from where it was to trends that now disrupt the bedrock of negative attitudes. The recent development of this face of social media specially on Twitter and Instagram (who uses Facebook?) has led to a questioning of the apparent cons of it.

From the trends that I have noticed that obviously go viral, some are important ones that are concerned with saving the environment for example, using steel straws instead of plastic ones. Awareness is built through these channels of communication.

The information one recieves and shares on the ban on abortions in Alabama or the recent Sudanese protests or maybe the fact that tearing away a small portion of plasticwrappers might lead to it not being fit for recycling and therefore awareness being spread has led to massive change and information dispersal where people are actually pressured into learning more

Because of effective communication, your tight group of netizens is helping in bringing about change. Viral videos on sexist, racist, or colourist statements or behaviorsare instantly given attention to and policed although sometimes cyber bullying takes its turn leading to worse conditions.

Neverthless, these examples show that despite everything there is hope for change and understanding even if social media is the perpetrator in riffs of modern society.
