Throughout the centuries the Taj Mahal has been the memento of love. It has been the most bewildering beautiful monument to love ever built. This monument, located in Agra, the capital of the Mughal Empire in the 16th and the 17th century, is mainly the reason for many tourists to visit India. It took a total of 22 years and 20,000 people to construct this monument. The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor, in memory of his dead wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631.

It is believed that the chief architect of this beautiful monument was an Iranian man named Isa Khan. When Shah Jahan saw the memorial, he was so ecstatic that he ordered the hands and thumbs of many of the builders to be cleaved so that they would not be able to make a building as magnificent as his wife’s mausoleum.

The tomb of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan is located in the basement of the building. This beauty is worth spending a little more time than just looking throughout the building because the appearance of the building changes with the light at different times of the day. The green lush that surrounds the building is itself so mesmerizing and calming. The reflection of the Taj Mahal on the waters is a delightful site, and it increases the beauty of the mausoleum to some other level.
